In gimp there is a brush called "sparks". the interesting thing about
this brush is that it produces an almost random pattern when it is
used. How can I apply this to other brushes. The edit menu for this
brush doesn't show any settings that cause this.

The "sparks" brush isn't an effect applied to a brush. From what I can
see, brushes like the sparks one (for instance "pencil sketch" and
"vine") are actually defined using several individual images, which are
picked at random when the brushed is used. Do add brushes to GIMP, see
